NPS Round 6 Laois

August 18th, 2009

the last round of the downhill NPS was held in Cullohill in Laois at a new venue run by Pat collins, all il say say is the track was a ball of fun with a bit of everything in it, big rythem section of 20foot gap jumps and rollers a sweet steep switchback section and a tasty drop into the finish field if you dont crash into the red bull arch!

Results wise it was a good one for the Southern Extreme team with Tom Power winning the elite race and the fastest time of the day and the 150euro that went with it, nice start to his vegas fund!

Cam took yet another win in the U-14’s by 10 seconds and has found a new love in Maxxis Minion tires in the wet!

Dennis flipped his truck onto its roof the week before the race but it did free up time to practice and race properly and a good 3rd place was his in masters.

Richard got his best result of the season with 10th place in seniors and Dave Egan crash out but finished with 5th place in Elite

World cup DH 2 France

May 6th, 2009

the second round of the UCI downhill world cup is on in La bresse in the Voges mountains in France on what is a new course that is gonna stand out, the track is mostly in the open and very old school with loads of flat out off camber and rocky sections, the amount of Grassy off camber and the forcast is brutal so its gonna be Maxxis wet screams for everyone and it could be a track for Troy lee designs Sam Hill as it has been described as Very Steep by anyone thats there so it should be a good race.

of the Irish OC tuning’s Ewan doherty is gonna be there along with Ben Reid, so here’s hoping they will do well in the mud!

Dunmanway NPS

May 6th, 2009

well the 2nd round of the Irish NS was just held at our local track in Clashnacrona woods near Dunmanway Co Cork, the previous week was kinda damp, just plain wet so the woods in the bottom section were a bit muddy, good news was 3 days of sun served to dry the track up nicely up top, was nice and dusty and the woods down low were nice and tacky, perfect conditions for the Maxxis High rollers all the team were on, Even Dennis Corkery who switched over from the wetscreams that were on his Iron horse for the last year!

results wise Cam Took the win in U-14’s by 12seconds, Tom Came 7th in Elite as did Dennis in Masters, Dave took his Sunn to 9th in Elite and Richard wa off the pace in 26th in Seniors.

World cup news

April 14th, 2009

the first round is now done and dusted in South Africa on Greg Minaar’s local track, no surprise  he took the win in his custom Alpinestar kit but it was Aussie Mick Hannah taking 2nd in his first race after a year off.  3rd was DR Steve Peat on his Maxxis semi slick shod Santa Cruz.

there was no Irish at the race coz Ben reid is out with a broken Collar bone sustained at the Maxxis cup in Portugal.

the next round is in Le Pelle in France in May the week after the NPS race in Dunmanway

Team news

April 14th, 2009

bad news is Greg is out for the season after busting his knee at a triathlon in waterford last year so needs an operation or 3 to get it going again. and he really dosent like marsalling at races either. he still has his Troy Lee Designs kit and some nice Sunline bars for his new giant.

Tom Power is back from Spain and his flying course and he is now a qualified pilot…..

Cam is flying, took the win at the race in Cahir by 17seconds and is looking to top that at the race in Dunmanway and has been my test monkey for the new maxxis tires for the last week.

Dave Egan is busy rebuilding is Sunn after snapping the shock at Cahir.

Dennis Corkery is busy with his Uplift service and is looking at a 15min DH uplift near Glengarrif as well. more on this when i get around to it.

new maxxis ARDENT tire

April 14th, 2009

just got some of the new Maxxis ardent downhill tires, the look like a cross between the high roller and minion.

I got a chance to test them on my Ancillotti on the fast loose stuff at our secret track near Bantry they worked great, roll very fast, a lot more braking than the high roller with great cornering. Cam got to try them at his backyard track and they were not soo good on the wet roots and rocks after a few days rain but that might have more to do with the maxxpro compound vs wet roots than tread pattern.

use… id say they could be the tire of choice for fast dry/loose tracks.just have to try them on a hardpack track next.

maybe the nationals in Carrick or Rosstrevor if it stays dry for that one.

Random stuff

April 14th, 2009
